The demolition of the kitchen involved removing all the old cabinets and counter tops. We also had opened up the kitchen to the breakfast room. This required the removal of a short-bearing wall. I had to install a beam up in the ceiling to replace that wall. We also took out a lot of drywall on the walls and ceiling.
The old tile floor was a nightmare to remove. It took a week to chip up the old tile and remove a layer of plywood. We replaced the old double oven with a new one. The old cook top was in our island, but the new cook top is along a wall.
The new island is made with ivory-colored cabinets and a gorgeous deep green granite top. My wife wanted as many of the appliances hidden as possible with cabinet fronts. These include the dishwasher, freezer drawers, ice maker, and refrigerator.
The custom cabinets came with all sorts of trim pieces that allowed us to create interesting accent touches at the cabinet end panels at the sink bases and the cook top cabinet. The old counter tops were ceramic tile that had seen better days. We love the light-colored granite that compliments the green granite on the island. That old ceramic tiled-floor was replaced with warm hard wood that is really easy to maintain.
You can see our kitchen remodeling job involve a lot of work. But you know what? Those dust-filled days, they are long forgotten. We love our new kitchen, and I think you are going to enjoy your kitchen remodeling project.
