Let us talk a little bit about how to export photos from Lightroom. To do that is pretty simple. All we are going to do is just single click on an image and click on file and export. You will notice that you have some presets that are available to you here like full size jpegs, DNG’s or exporting your images for email but these are presets that you can create as well.
You can also right click on the image and select export with contact sensitive menu and notice that you have these options here. So, you have the options there as well as the generic export.
Let us go into the export dialog box and talk about that there. Now, this is changed a little bit so these looks a little bit different from older versions of Lightroom. The first thing that you are going to notice is that you are going to see a section there that asks you about the export location. Where do you put them? And you can either put it in a specific folder that you specified or in the same folder that you have the original photo on it.
More often than not, if you are exporting chances are you probably are going to export to a specific folder that you are going to want. Now, the folder that you can use, obviously you can choose whatever area you want to be able to save it in and you have the option to be able to make a subfolder. This, I tend to use quite a bit because I do not want to go back and use one of the Explorer or my finder to create a folder and once I have it set then I come and choose it. I will just choose the location and then I will write the folder that I want it here.
You can add those pictures to the catalog or you can stock them with the original as well. Chances are if you are exporting, you probably not going to add them in the catalog and so I am going to leave that unchecked.
It also asks you what you want to do with the existing files. Do you want to take any files like any area where you export? Do you want to be able to take a new name for the files that are exporting or write them or skip them? It is a great way to kind of give you a lot of functionality about what is going to happen if you continue it happens of re-exporting a lot of images.
File naming, file naming is pretty essential. Right now, I have a template that it says, use the file name of the original file which is well and good like if you are sharing pictures with individuals and they want to reference the original file that you have. Obviously, use file name but if you need to be able to put this on a web and you want me to have specific naming convention, you can click and drop down here and used various types of naming conventions that are available to you.
So, normally the pretty example here, you have custom name so if you are going to press some name, you can give it a name and you can give it a start number. So, if I said baby and I will type Baby and I would say Baby 1 of 1 or we say 1 of 2 or 2 of 7 so how ever many. You can do that. That is not bad or you can do a custom name with a sequence which I happen to use a lot. I just type in something, the word and then it will automatically put a dash in and put whatever the starting number that I have there.
You can also make your own. You do not have to work it through just the date and the file name. You can come over here to the edit menu and you can make whatever it is that you want from a series of drop downs. For example, if I want to make something that has had photo studio-RC-date. What I can do is I can highlight all of these. I can get rid of this and then let us just say from here what I want to do is I will be able to put in some custom text and then dash and then let us just say that a file name and then I can put in a date to notice that it shows me samples of what it will look like at the top.
Now, I can use that when I need to use that. That is really weird for the custom name so I am not just going to do them. I am just going to click on cancel but the good part about it is you have a variety of different things that are available to you that you
