How to Exaggerate the Angles in Tennis

One of the most important tactics from the baseline is to hit angles to pull your opponent out of position. Here is a simple exercise that dramatically help Colindy get a feel for these angled groundstrokes.

Here Colindy is hitting cross-court angles except she is intentionally aiming for the doubles alley. Her goal is for a shot to pass outside the single sideline before the ball crosses the opponent's baseline.

Once she gets a feel for the angles involved, I vary her target by calling out alley, or court, with court meaning the angle box should land inside the single sideline. Like almost all the exercises in this program; try this one with topspin backhands as well. Topspin is generally recommended for these angles, since the ball can clear the net by more margin, get into the court and pull the opponent for out of position.
