TheGimp - How to Use Decolorization

Hi everyone, welcome to another Gimp tutorial this we will learn how to changes certain objects with in the color images into the black and white the method is that called selective discoloration and what you need first is input images with the descent resolution so you have to make sure the image have a high contrast usually images from digital cameras will just to fine but of-course you can always use some filters on the images and sharp it a little more but this will just too fine.

Okay now first thing we will do is we will create new layer, a new transparent on top of the background and give at any name we will want. Check for transparency—and now we change the layer mode two set saturation and now we can use the brush tool and draw onto that layer and everything that we will draw will turn into black and white so use brush tool – pick five of the brush –and as you can see what ever is drawn turns into black and white.

Now the problem with this method is that it takes allot of time to fill the whole object so what you can do is you can use one of the selection tools and this case I will go for free hand selections tool and draw around the object—

Of-course you can always do that a little bit more on accurate and being a little bit sloppy right here but it should do for this tutorial. So, now we can use this tool to fill the selection with our black and white pattern—now problem with this method is that spacious like here between the arm and body or between the ice corn and the arm it should be black and white but that it is just depend on the selection you make first it show the little training you will get probably the descent results and it can create effects like this one here.
