Tutorial: TheGimp–Selective Colorization
Hi and welcome to another Gimp tutorial. In the last tutorial we used a technique called selective decolorization and this time we go to the exact opposite that is selective colorization. The effect, however, will be quite similar as you will see. And again, the technique of somehow faking the effect on by that, I mean that we are not really manipulating the original picture but rather a layered copy of the picture.
Okay, what we will need first is a picture and select in the left tutorial. The preliminaries are the same. We need a picture of a decent resolution and it should have a wide range of different color through it. This will give you the best results, so here is the picture and the next thing we do is we open the picture again so that we got a copy and then we turn it to grayscale we do the spy going to image, mode, grayscale and now we got the gray scale copy and we select all and copy that and paste it onto the colored picture. The grayscale picture becomes a new layer and then we right click on that and add a layer or mask. Check that if it is at wide full opacity and then we use a brush of black color and now everything we draw on black will reveal the color that is underneath. So, zoom a little into the picture and then we start drawing. Of course we can always do this a little more accurate.
(demo)
Okay we are almost there. And then we have the result. Okay I hope you liked this tutorial and if you did, I will see you next time. Bye.
