Ashley: Hi.
Anthony Caporale: Hi.
Ashley: Good to see you.
Anthony Caporale: Always good to see you Ashley.
Ashley: Always good to see you too Anthony.
Anthony Caporale: This week we’re going to be making a great drink. This is for the Da Vinci Code fans out there. This is a variation of the Bloody Mary, classic Bloody Mary but we call it the Holy Grail. So if you have read the book or if you have seen the movie you know where we’re going with this.
Bloody Mary vodka and tomato juice with spices is the original Bloody Mary. We’re going to get the flavor on that work and even a little bit better. First thing we are going to do is ice the glass, ice all the way to the top and instead of regular vodka we are going to use flavored vodka, and I use three quarters of an ounce of pepper vodka, and three quarters of an ounce of citrus vodka. So right after that for putting anything out in there, lots and lots of flavor. You can use Bloody Mary mix, but I like to make the Bloody Mary mix myself.
So I’ll use tomato juice and tomato juice almost all the way to the top - good quality tomato juice. Put a little bit of fresh brown pepper, black pepper in there and a little bit of salt. Now, the salt is not to make the drink salty; salt actually brings out the flavor of everything else in the drink. So that’s why we use salt in this. Little bit Worcestershire sauce, just a dash and my secret ingredient for the Holy Grail is olive juice. And this is the juice that comes out of the cocktail olive jar, and then I take this whole thing into my tin and before I put it back in my glass, squeeze a fresh lime and that again --
Ashley: Wow, secret ingredient.
Anthony Caporale: -- just wakes all of the flavors up. Right. Back into my glass and to garnish, delicious garnish for Bloody Mary is celery. To me celery doesn’t have a lot of flavors, so I don't garnish my Bloody Mary with celery. I like two cocktail olives and these are actually garlic-stuffed cocktail olives. You have never had garlic and get some. Right in the drink and that is the Holy Grail.
Ashley: Looks good.
Anthony Caporale: Want to make one?
Ashley: Sure.
Anthony Caporale: Alright. So set your glassware first right, good technique always and ice the glass. Very important, ice all way to the top, it’s the number one thing that I see professional bartenders do and home bartenders don't. Three quarters of an ounce of pepper flavored vodka, and three quarters of an ounce of citrus flavored vodka. Those two flavors work really, really well with our tomato juice that’s why we take those.
Ashley: Tomato juice.
Anthony Caporale: And a good quality tomato juice, yeah. And now, all the stuff that makes it a Bloody Mary or in this case a Holy Grail.
Ashley: May I add my salt first?
Anthony Caporale: Good, salt. Therefore I always like the fresh ground, you can use the pre grind if you want. About a quarter ounce of Worcestershire sauce.
Ashley: And now --
Anthony Caporale: The secret ingredient, olive juice. And again I am using about a quarter an ounce of olive juice. Put into the tin, fresh lime. Wonderful!
Ashley: Cheers.
Anthony Caporale: Cheers. Want to go to see Da Vince Code.
Ashley: Absolutely, I am exited.
Anthony Caporale: Let’s go.
Ashley: Looks good.
