Dealing with a vomiting dog
Speaker: The other end of dog, of course, is vomiting, and it tends to be a bit more of a serious problem, it can indicate quite a few serious problems, such as, a blockage. If your dog has eaten a toy, for example, or underlying problems, such as, kidney failure, all sorts of conditions. But quite often, it can just be a result of eating food too quickly or a bit of a minus stomach bug. So one or two occasional vomiting is nothing really to worry about, but if your dog is persistently vomiting or there is blood in the vomit, then you really should get down to your vet for the treatment.
There is one specific treatment on this particular subject, which I will just discuss, which is quite a rare condition, but it's quite an interesting way treating it. Unless if your dog swallows something sharp, like a big glass or needle, and you would be surprised how often this does happen, and still rush in to your vet, so something you can do to help. In that case, persuade your dog to swallow some cotton wool, and what happens is, in the intestine the cotton wool wraps itself around whatever is sharp in that and just helps it pass through without causing any injury.
So you need to get some cotton wool balls, to swallow up the cotton wool, and to persuade your dog to this good idea to eat the cotton wool, work better in the bit of cream. So just pour the cream over like this, soaks the cotton wool balls, and a bit of cream, like that, mix them all up together, and then offer your dog these to eat. They will pass through and pick up anything sharp in the intestines and carry it safely through. Obviously, if despite trying this, your dog is almost feeling discomfortable of the blood passing through or vomiting, then you do need to get down to your vet, but it's good, first of all, to call, to try and solve the problem out.
Probably the most serious reason for vomiting is a very nasty condition called GDV Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus, which is essentially where the stomach blows up and twists, and this is more common in big dogs, Great Dane, dogs of that kind of size. It's a very, very serious condition and that needs veterinary attention straightaway and symptoms of this are, attempting to vomit often retching up a white froth and the stomach goes very, very hard and bloating and so the whole abdomen gets very, very big and bloated. If you notice any of these symptoms, get straight down to the vet.
The best thing regarding this really is prevention. So you should feed small meals at regular and often rather than big meals, and also, don't take your dog for a big or lots of exercise or a big walk straight after that.
