What is Meatal Stenosis

Interviewer: Sometimes little boys, especially has some hesitancy to pee in the dark and looks at the opening, it looks a little narrow, he said, “Oh, it is plumbing problem”. When they said that to you, what do you do with anything like that?

Interviewee: Well this is called meatal stenosis. We see in children that have been circumcised. All the many years that the opening of the penis or the meatus can narrow down when it comes to nine. One of the first signs of this is urinating with a deflected string. If the mother comes to your office complaining that the child cannot the direct the stream into a toilet bowl, that maybe a sign of Meatal Stenosis. Inspection of the meatus will show a small round opening when it should be a long slit-like opening. If this becomes severe, the child can hesitate to urinate and can even cause a back out of urine or urinary tract infections.

Interviewer: How is that for you?

Interviewee: It is a very easy fix that can be done, at least can be done in the office. Now when we treat this with what is called meatotomy or a little cut of the opening. This could mean that the penis is with a cane cream. A lot of cane cream which is placed on the penis by the mother at home and when she comes to your office immediate time the child is not fearless then we could fix this almost immediately. The point is that we teach the parents how to separate the meatus and to apply bacitracin after the procedure for several weeks to prevent this from reoccurring.
