Spanish vowels, like German vowels are unlike English vowels, are pure. For example O is not pronounced like Oh. This is one of the telltale signs of a non-native speaker. As silly as it seems, children´s shows such as Sesame Street are great for learning how to pronounce, since kids need to learn how to speak as well.
