Video Transcript: (More)
Female: Of eight stories, set in California, San Marcus Mountains, skateboarding champion Bob Burnquist drops in on the world?s highest skateboarding ramp. This also happens to be in his back yard.
Bob: It is scary and you are always scared. The first jump is always, always scary. Because you just do not know if it is going to work, you know.
(Music Playing)
Bob: There is a risk level and until you get comfortable with it, you are going to be scared, you know, and if you go down here, you are going to get rowdy.
(Music playing)
Female: Only the most elite skateboarders dare ride the $280, 000.00-mega ramp. Burnquist built it to put extreme skateboarding to the next level along with his own career which includes gold medals at the X-games.
Bob: You always think that it is all about what else, no, there is no way you can go anywhere. It is like there is always a way, you know. We asked Bill Robs in the past, I have gone in the project from like to pursue that ramp. Going out to Grand Canyon and doing that whole thing. But this has been the most challenging.
Female: Challenging because it is massive. The ramp is longer than a softball field in length, has some 400 sheets of plywood. And even an acrobat?s net to keep riders from falling into the creek below.
Bob: And I did not even have a blueprint. It was just like I looked at the terrain and where it could fit and whether I am going to design it around the feng shui and the energy of this particular spot.
Female: The spot is also, where Burnquist lives with his partner, professional skateboarder Jen O?Brien, and their daughter Louise.
Jen: I have not read the Magary ads and I do not really think I want to ride it. And if you guys have been at the top of that thing and look down there, it is pretty scary looking.
Bob: Sometimes, you calculate as much as you can and you try to assess everything they possibly can, but sometimes, just close your eyes and go. You just roll in and you are all set and you got this massive spin. You are flying into the air and you land, you .got even more speed and then you are just controlling, relaxing and you got huge profile if I need it, absorb by your speed and you are done and you land and that is like you cannot wait to do it again. That was fun.
