3DS Max 9 Tutorial - Creating a Sky

?Hi, there this is Dave from www.videoeffectsuniverse.tk and today I am going to do a tutorial in 3D Studio MAX 9. This is tutorial is creating a sky back ground. Now as you can see in our camera view port one, we have an F117A stealth bomber in it is been animated to move forward and fly around.

It has no background yet so, what we are going to do is create one. All we need to do is go over stand the primitive object type and click on the plane and go to top view port and drag one onto the scene. Okay change our length segments to one and our width segments to one. No need to rotate it so it is facing up and what we also need to do now is move it so that in front of our F-117A. Now, just checking that you see in front we need to animate it. It is make sure it does not fly for it which it does now so I need to see where it stops to fly forward. Which is about their and move this just in front of it.

Right, now it does not fly for it we have a next problem. Our plane ends and we have a blank background so obviously what we need to do now is tie to this up. So, slips our own scale button made it rise out to the right and on our front view port move it right up so that whole camera is filled, check your animation just make sure is no edges while they are all here. Okay and just fill up. All right, now go now our background plane we need to add a material to it

So press M from materials. Okay, click this blank diffuse box here and you will get an option come up. Click bit map. Okay now I am just going to view some this sky to see that we have.

Now this sky come standard with the 3D Studio MAX 9 package so, let us say if you have that you can find this in your installation file. I click cloud sky, click open and now we going to click this button here to apply it. I will click on this button to show it in the view port and I am going to go up to the parents section. And I am going to set so self illuminations to 100. Okay. Now if I just do a preview of this, we will see what we can back with. And there you have it, you have the sky, see and it actually animates with your camera as well. So, just can see it moves around. In that is perfect.

Right now we have our scene, you may want adds lights to your object and sometimes you already have lights in it. However this can cause problems and maybe just take create light, lights standard light target spot light.

Now, you see it goes dark here, however, that is not the problem because we have set the self illumination to a 100. Therefore, the background layer will not be selected. Alternately we cannot do as well is go into your modify, exclude and click your plane.

Not actual of vehicle but the plane background and move it into the ?Exclusiation? this will exclude from the receiving illumination and caused in shadows because you got shadows. Because if you have got shadows left of your light the last thing you want is massive shadow appearing in your sky that because that just does not happen. Alternately the other way can do these is select your plane, right click object properties and the anti course setters and receive shadows. Okay, so now you can have lights in your scene and they will not affect plane at all?.

And let say the only the fake objects in your scene unless you have excluded them.
