All right, we are ready to get started here so I am going to go to the symbol formerly known as file and I am going to head down to Open. I am going to make sure I am on my desktop and then into my project files folder lesson two and there is a formatting .docx and open. All right, now we are ready to add on some headers and some footers here.
So, I am going to head to my insert tab up at the top here. If you move your eye over towards the right, you will find header and footer. So, let us start of with the header here. I am going to drop down my header menu here. This gives me some pre-created headers. I am going to move my mouse down my list here and I am going to choose blank three columns and my header appears at the top of my page. Inside the first text box here, I am going to click with my mouse. From my insert category up at the top, I am going to click on date and time and then I will choose my date format here and then okay. There is my date. Up inside my right hand textbox, I am going to type in the name of my document here. And my center textbox, I am going to delete it just by pressing my delete key. Okay, I am also going to add a footer. Inside my navigation area I am going to click on go to footer. There is my footer area there and I will add a page number here to the bottom of my page and once again here is some free formatted page numbers here.
What I find with this list here too is the further down you get, the more stylized they become. Maybe I will go with this one here. There we are. Now that I have added my header and footer, I can click on the close header and footer button up at the top here. That takes me out and there is my header at the top and my footer down towards bottom. Now, if I ever want to edit my headers or my footers, all I need to do is just double click inside them and that gets me back inside my header area. Now, did you notice up at the top, we have a new tab, a design tab and you will notice that that only shows up when I am actually clicked inside my header or my footer. For example, if I click on my close header and footer button, that design tab disappears. Double click on my header again it reappears. This is what we call a contextual tab and obviously, they are new here in Word 2007 and they will show up whenever we have content selected.
Let us take a quick look at some of the options here. Earlier, just a moment ago, you saw me insert the date and time. I can also insert a graphic into my header or my footer as well as clipart. I can do things like set up a different first page header, different add and even page headers if I am setting up left and right pages. Inside the position category, I can set up my spacing for my headers and my footers. Now, to get into my header and footer, I could click on the close button or there is a much faster way. I can just double click to get me back into the regular editing mode. Because I changed my position on my footer, I will just scroll down to show you what I have there. There we are, my header and my footer.
Now, this page number that I added – I am just going to take a quick scroll through my document and you can see that my page numbering is looked after for me. In other words, if I had more pages to my document, Word is going to automatically renumber everything for me. I do not know how many times I have seen people add page numbering by hand. In other words, manually adding in their page numbering and of course if you start adding or removing pages with manually inserted page numbers, you have to of course go in manually fix your page number. So, definitely keep in mind your page numbering for your headers and your footers and that makes life ten times easier.
