Debra Corbeil has been in high gear since travelling to Thailand with her husband a decade ago. Married for 11 of their 18 years together, they have climbed, paddled, hiked and biked their way through 5 continents. From exploring the Head Hunters trail in Borneo to Summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, they are constantly looking for a new adventure or unique way to discover the world.
As a writer Debra loves to document each journey that they go on, while Dave captures their memories by the lense of his camera.   They had a four part series in the Toronto Star last year following their journey through Africa on a bicycle.
While travelling, they love to integrate themselves into the culture of the country that they visit. Living with the people, eating where the local community eats and taking part in traditional customs, they strive to learn as much about each country as they can. Their goal is to teach the world about other ways of life and raise awareness of social issues that different communities face each day.
This past summer they finished with an amazing showing in The Tour d’Afrique, a 12,000km bike race from Cairo, Egypt to Cape Town, South Africa. Deb was Womens Champion and Dave placed 5th in the men’s competition with the added accomplishment of joining the elite EFI club. (Cycling Every Fabulous Inch without missing one kilometer enduring one penalty) All adventures have taken them to the far corners of the earth where they have embraced new cultures and ways of life, while learning about the traditions of the indigenous people that they meet.
By travelling as a couple, they have found that they can explore the world with a broad view by seeing it from two different perspectives. This has allowed them to experience different activities that they would otherwise avoid if travelling alone and by exploring together they have come to respect the value of compromise.
True adventurers to the core, they have done everything from joining the procession at Thaipusam in honoring the lord Muluga in Malaysia, to swimming with sharks in Belize. They have joined pilgrims while giving offerings at Burma’s Golden Rock and bungee jumped into Zambia’s great Gorge. They have camped as the Bedouins in Egypt’s white desert and gone Paragliding in Peru. While the list of adventures can go on and on, they feel that they have only scratched the surface of what this world has to offer and look forward to more great journeys for the rest of their life.
Thaipusam, Malaysia
It is the middle of the night, the heat is overwhelming inside the squeeze of a million people and we have come to a terrifying stop. I look to my husband Dave for reassurance but he cannot help me. Panic has set in and I cannot move, escape, or breathe. In

Ethiopia. Nice Place to Visit, I Wouldn't want to Cycle There
by theplanetd | in Travel > Africa
I had heard about the children throwing rocks in Ethiopia before I left for Africa to cycle the continent. But I never dreamed that it would be that bad. That is until I crossed border from Sudan. From the moment entered the country to the moment I left, I was terrorized by rock wielding children with great aim.
