I am 60 years old (but still feel 25 years old!) and have now retired living in the Costa del Sol, Spain with my husband.  Originally from the UK my husband and I came to Spain in 1999 and successfully ran 3 bars. However my husband had been in the oil industry and was head hunted by an American company and ended up in the Yemen. I followed on 3 months later after having sold our last bar and we both had a very interesting time in the Yemen until it was decided all wives should leave because of possible trouble. I therefore returned to the UK but my husband stayed in the Yemen for a further 6 months finally coming back to the UK to take early retirement.  However, Spain called to us again and since 2005 we have been living here and thoroughly enjoying our life.Â
I have always been interested in writing but have never had the time to pursue it until now.  I have entered two competitions in newspapers both in the UK and in Spain and have had two stories published but other than that I have half finished articles and a possible book of my time working in a Wildlife Park in the UK dotted around my house.   Maybe now I might be able to actually get down to having a go as it is easier sitting on a quiet beach writing.
I hope some of my stories (of which all are true) of my experiences of life will be of interest.

Integration into the Spanish way of life
A large number of expats moving to Spain do not often get the chance to integrate completely within the Spanish way of life. However my husband and I have been fortunate enough to be totally involved with a large Spanish family in the campo just a few miles from Fuengirola

Expats leave Spain and return to the UK
by jenny42 | in Business & Finance > Personal Finance
Since January 2009 many British expats who thought they had made their new life in Spain have had to return to the UK mainly due to the poor exchange rate between the British pound and the Euro. Businesses have closed and properties lie empty with their owners being unable to pay the mortgage or rent.

My Wild Job in a Wildlife Park

They say you should never work with animals and children - well I ended up as a Marketing Officer for a Wildlife Park housing exotic animals and this is just a small part of the fun I had working there and the antics of the animals.

Owning and Running a Bar in Spain
by jenny42 | in Business & Finance > Small Business
Many ex-pats come to Spain for the different lifestyle and one of the businesses available to them is running an English bar. We did just that after my husband was made redundant. This is just a part of the story on how we actually came to do this and hope it wll be of some help to others.

Guide Dogs for the Blind - be a puppy walker and change your life!
by jenny42 | in Pets > Dogs
Help train up puppies to be Guide Dogs for the blind. My sister has assisted in training 10 dogs so far and loves every minute of it. This is voluntary work for the Guide Dog Association but very rewarding as all her dogs are now fully fledged guide dogs.
I have no friends at the moment.
I haven't added any favorites yet.
