You can find plenty more on these and other topics on my blog, Edutainment and my websites The Primary Sourcebook and Women's History Magazine,

For hundreds of years, the secret doctrines of Zen have been transmitted from master to student in the form of seemingly absurd riddles or parables called koans. Intense meditation upon these is said to lead to enlightenment.
The use of primary sources of history is the cornerstone of research and is one of the most important tools available to teach students to think critically.
In many areas of study such as arts, social sciences, humanities, natural sciences and in particular history, it is vital to know the difference between primary and secondary sources.

The first thing to remember when fly fishing for trout is to be what Peter Mackenzie-Philps calls a ‘thinking angler’. The environment you are in should be what determines your actions and you should avoid getting stuck in a rut.
Trout tend to eat different food depending on what is available to them in their particular environment, so when considering ways to best lure them, the best advice is to ‘match the hatch’ and figure out what suits the location you find yourself in.

In my amazing high school world geography class I was required to read a book titled Guns, Germs, and Steel. Basically this book outlines why Europeans came to dominate the Americas instead of the other way around. This article fails to adequately discuss how deadly the Spaniards' diseases were to the natives. With no immunity to so many new diseases, the native population were sitting ducks to the inevitable pandemic.
