I am a journalist looking for freelance writing opportunities with magazines, newspapers, and publishing houses.
Having an experience of nine years in this field I can say that I have experienced the best of the two main departments reporting and editing. I started my career as a trainee journalist at one of India's leading dailies The Asian Age based in the Gujarat state. I worked as a correspondent cum reporter.
Prior to that I worked as a Reporter for a tabloid for children called The School Post privately distributed to children in various schools. It was a learning experience writing stories related to children, thier anxities, aspirations and dreams.
After marriage I shifted to New Delhi where initially I worked for an IT specific tabloid called Indian Computrade News ICN as an associate editor. I was responsible for all the news content that went in the paper.
I later joined The Hindustan Times as content editor. I was part of a team of editors subbing the content online and sending it back to the parent source.
After a year and a half I felt it was time to go back to reporting and writing and that's when I joined The Asian Age again with the features department.
Here I learned the QuarkXpress and how to design pages. I was incharge of some pages. I enjoyed reporting on the humane side of stories, writing about food, art, music, fashion, and religion among other topics.
Then for a year I took a break from journalism and tried my hands at copywriting at Via Infotech.
Copywriting was fun for a while but I missed journalism and then I got the opportunity to work for PlanMan Media as an assistant editor for their online newspaper The Daily Indian. Here again I was responsible for every content that went in the paper. Since it was an online paper I was co-ordinating with reporters all over the country for news.
Then my husband shifted to the Kingdom of Bahrain and after eight months I joined him there and got a job at Gulf Daily News as a sub editor, an English daily.
Although throughout my working career I was at the desk except when I was a trainee journalist in Asian Age, Ahmedabad, however it is reporting and writing that I enjoy the most.
And at Helium I got that chance to do what I enjoy the most writing. I have won two credentials here Marketplace Premier and Creative Writing Silver Award. And I hope to earn as much credentials here and improve my writing as much as I can.
