Surly-Mac

My Internet handle is "Surly-Mac". The name comes from combining two of my greatest loves: cycling on my Surly CrossCheck bicycle and using my PowerMac G5 computer system. (NOTE: there is little truth to the rumor that "Surly-Mac" is just a natural description for an old guy with a sour disposition... Bah!)

I've worked at a number of jobs and followed more than one career path in my life.  Like a lot of folks, I have a box full of Busted Dreams and crates of Disappointment stored away in my Personal Experience Warehouse.

I've worked as a US Marine, SF Cop, undercover narc, salesman, sales manager/trainer, pro-baseball prospect, frustrated golfer, insurance agent, long-haul trucker, construction worker, concrete finisher, janitor, porn store clerk, cigarette store manager, tin-can maker, fiberglass boat finisher, Drug Court tracker and Licensed Private Investigator... and more.

I've done a lot of writing and photography but never completed any significant project. So far; no pot of gold but lots of interesting experiences.

I've been married, divorced, living in sin, remarried for life, father & brother, saved in church, lapsed & fallen, drunk, sober, too fat, lean & mean; I've enjoyed 'highs and lows', political activism, political exile, philosophic 'break-throughs' and mini-break-downs.

My current girlfriend is my wife of 33-years and I'm figuring that she might be the one for the 'long-haul'; so far, I haven't been able to shake her faith or question her love.  She's saved my life on more than one occasion and been an even better friend than my Mac.

All in all, I'm just another American protecting my personal freedom and hoping for a graceful exit. In the meantime, I'd like to learn to be a good writer.
