I have a HUGE problem with adults hitting/spanking a child ever. I can't hit an adult, or an animal and I sure as hell shouldn't be allowed or WANT to hit a defenceless child. There is always a better way of discipling a child ie teaching them right from wrong! I just don't believe either that Jesus wants us to hit a child either !! Not exactly turning the other cheek ... is it ??

I generally find that when someone is against spanking they were abused as a child. While I am not suggesting that this is something that happened to you "TealRose" , I will say that I was spanked as a child with love and guidance and I turned out fine. I accept the fact that our society differs when it comes to certain things, yet it is difficult to rationalize all the people that are in the penal system, both in the United States (where I live) and other parts of the world. As a grandmother it is probably easy to make the statement that you are against spanking, especially since when the child turns down the wrong road it is not your responsibility, but that of the parents. I spanked my child while growing up and I can assure you, if I did not, there is a good chance that he would not be as respectable and law abiding as he is today. Children must realize that they have to be accountable for their actions, otherwise they will do whatever they want to. That action is not because of you not showing them love, it is due to the peer pressure that comes from their classmates and other associates. The couple that I wrote about obviously took the spanking to a level of macabre child abuse, however, the bible is clear, we as parents "must" lead our children along the road of our Savior, if we fail because we lack the will and direction, then we have only ourselves to blame. Every so often we come across a child that is so humble and respectful that little or no direction is ever needed, but let me assure you that those are few and far between. God bless you and your opinion, however, I take my direction from the word of God and it is pretty clear what that says.
