Orrymain
Orrymain last signed in Jan 07 2010 and has been on Bukisa since Apr 27, 2009.
My passion covers many things, especially my dogs. My girls are my joy.
I love the entertainment world and grew up loving TV, movies, and the like. I've had a lot of fun, meeting celebrities and attending various events over the years. My favorites include Patrick Swayze, Michael Shanks, Robert Fuller, Doris Day, Barbra Streisand, James Darren, Bobby Sherman, Patty Duke, Richard Dean Anderson, Jeffrey Hunter, and others.
I grew up with a huge passion for baseball, the Oakland A's, and Reggie Jackson, but I don't follow the sport as much as I used to. Nowadays, my big sporting thrill is NASCAR and Jeff Gordon.
I've always written in some way, shape, or form. Way back in high school, I was editor-in-chief of the school paper for two years. In college, I minored in journalism for a while. In recent years, my biggest passion with writing has been with fan fiction for the show Stargate SG-1.
California is my birth place, and I love it. I'd never leave.
If you're reading this, I hope you've gotten something from articles here on Bukisa. Thanks for the interest.

From the stories told by my great-grandparents, grandparents and even my own Mother....I think I can answer this question. They actually held real conversations with each other. Played games together. Worked together...there was always socks or britches to mend by the light of oil lamps. They went to church, held socials, played cards, took care of livestock and worked in the fields. Gardens were tended and bread was baked weekly. Suppers were all cooked from scratch with fresh stuff out of the garden. These were REAL families...the ones who talked to each other, worked and played together and developed close bonds. My Mum rode a horse to a little one-room school house. The children lit and stoked the fire, lunch was cooked by the girls for everyone or they brought their own in little metal buckets. Water was hauled in by buckets and the outhouse was "out"side! I think we all have become so accustomed to having something to constantly entertain us, that we forget about what really matters. All these gadgets are but distractions and time-wasters when you really stop and think about it. They keep us from sharing with our loved ones and spending good quality time with them. When I grew up, the power sometimes went out for days or a week. This was always my favorite time in winter because we played monopoly or in the snow. We kept warm by the fire, got out candles and oil lamps, which made the room feel warm and cozy. We cooked all our meals in a big, black pot on the wood stove. Hot cocoa was even more delicious cooked on the wood stove. So, what do you do if the power goes out? Enjoy it and create great memories with your family..thanks for sharing and bringing back a wave of wonderful memories to me........

Yes, I agree we need to tend to earth to keep her happy. We maybe heading like where the Disney movie Wall-E shows us and how terrible is that? Live in space for 500 years because we could not take or our earth here... Very good thoughts and article Lee Ness
Sam_OBrien on Animal Testing For Cosmetic Purposes Should be Banned on 1258424415
The Bible does teach that animals are a lower form of life compared to man. However, you are absolutely right that man does not have the right to abuse, neglect, exploit, or torture them. All animals have a right to live their lives in peace on this Earth which is their home too. Yes, as you stated, many people who abuse them are psychos who are a menace to the rest of society. Great article! I voted it 5 stars.

Good article. My favorites include Gilligan's Island and Gomer Pyle. You mention some I've never heard of, but would like to see. I really like old TV shows and movies. You don't have to worry about sleeze or profanity. I wish they'd make a come back.
DorisLim on Doris Day - her most important contribution on 1258304107
Hi Orrymain, Read your article on "Doris Day" and I like it because it seems to come straight from the heart. If you'd also like to read my article on her, you can check it out at either my niche site at: http://www.CreativeThinkingForWomen.com (at the "Blogs" Section) or at my alter-ego "AkitaWoof" (my 5-year old border collie) blog at: http://www.AkitaWoof.com I'm new here at "Bukisa.com" and I've only just posted 1 article. I'll probably add more in future. I've just added you as a friend because we seem to have many things in common. Other than Doris Day, I'm also a fan of Barbra Streisand, Richard Dean Anderson of Stargate and MacGyver (spelling??) fame. You can also find past publications of Ms Streisand and a mention of MacGyver in the "Articles" and "Reviews" Sections of my niche site. My love for dogs have resulted in my publishing widgets and jigsaw puzzles of dogs on my niche site as well. You're welcome to subscribe (it's FREE) to "CreativeThinkingForWomen.com". I think you'll enjoy the stuff I've published in this website of mine. Things that make me laugh, make me cry and make me wonder - they're all there. Best regards, Doris Lim (yes, I was named after "Doris Day" - by my dad!!)

I'm glad you did not use a shock collar. The RSPCA is now hoping to BAN these in the UK. Wales already has. As scientific evience has shown that they can cause harm to a dog if used inappropriately by an unexperienced dog owner. They can also cause other behaviour problems to occur which are even harder to control. Using electrical shock on prisoners of war is banned by the Geneva convention but we allow anyone to use it on their animals how can that be right.

Hey, great post, very well written. I agree to you, online banking is lot easier and a real time saver too. I have been paying my bills online for a while now using Billeo toolbar. Its keeps my information safe and ensures that I get bill payment reminders. Also stores my passwords and saves receipts for payments made online.

Remote Shock Collars are one of the most effective, simplest and most humane training aids available. Remote Shock Collars are placed on a dog's neck, allowing a trainer to deliver small static corrections of varying strength by remote control. The correction the dog gets from the remote dog training collar is no different than static from walking on carpet. The benefits of working with a remote dog training collar is the trainer can immediately correct a dog's mistakes at a distance far greater than leash training allows. A Shock Collar is a safe, effective and humane way to train your dog. A Dog Training Collar is a safe, effective and humane way to train your dog.

for Dog Crating -- Cruel or Not? on 1243847052
I appreciate the comment, but there are factors. One of my dogs was older, a real senior citizen when she began to bark more. The vets told me not to put a bark collar of any kind on her, including a spray collar. This was because she was partially blind and partially deaf. She wouldn't understand at that point why she was being sprayed. I do agree that spray collars are more effective and safer and more human than any kind of shock collar. I despise those things.
