for Circumcision - HealthyKidTips.com on 24th, Apr 2009

Caroline is right. This seems a remarkably superficial treatment of a serious matter - no parents should make their minds up on the basis of a 3 minute video, so the doctor ought to tell parents to find out more. For starters, they ought to see a circumcision being performed, at least on a video such as http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6584757516627632617&hl=en or http://newborns.stanford.edu/Gomco.html (from Stanford University). (In fact, they shouldn't have to make their minds up - in most of the rest of the English-speaking world, it simply isn't offered. In New Zealand, it's hard to find a doctor who will do it.)

for Male Circumcision Reduces Two STD's on 29th, Mar 2009

HPV is so common and so easily transmitted (and not just sexually) that circumcision is going to make very little difference. The body usually gets rid of it without any help. According to the study, 1500 circumcisions delayed (not prevented) 39 cases of HSV-2 for 24 months. That's 38.5 circumcisions - nearly 13 hours of a surgeon's time - to delay one case. The surgeon could spend his or her time much more usefully. This is just the latest in a steady drizzle of studies making big claims about circumcision, but they all come from the same few researchers.
