Into the Blue 2 - The Reef Now on DVD
Into the Blue 2 - The Reef is another movie about beautiful people wearing skimpy swim wear, diving and cavorting in the ocean where they encounter hidden danger.
Into the Blue 2 - The Reef is not based directly upon the prequel, Into the Blue. Rather, it is another movie about beautiful people wearing skimpy swim wear, diving and cavorting in the ocean where they encounter hidden danger. Into the Blue 2 takes place in Honolulu, Hawaii and stars Chris Carmack and Laura Vandervoort as Sebastian and Dani, a married couple who run a diving business. In search of the fabled San Cristobal, which legend says sank somewhere in the area with a lot of treasure. Sebastian believes the ship sank somewhere near the North Reef and he uses every opportunity to look for it.
Enter the wealthy rich couple, also beautiful people, who want to hire Sebastian and Dani for a week for diving in the North Reef because they are also looking for the San Cristobal. The viewer rightfully guesses right off the bay that Carlton (David Anders) and Azra (Marsha Thomason) are really looking for two large containers which were dumped overboard at the beginning of the movie. Dani soon starts to have suspicions after seeing Azra put an overly-flirtatious man in a headlock for grabbing her arm in a bar.
Her doubts are well-founded as it is soon revealed that Carlton is not really looking for the San Cristobal but is actually helping clients smuggle treasure. Carlton and Azra tell Sebastian and Dani that if the will pay the couple $500,000 to help them find the containers, and that not only will Carlton be killed if he doesn't find the containers in a week, but that Sebastian and Dani are in danger because the clients know they have been helping Carlton. This forces Sebastian and Dani into helping Carlton and Azra against their better judgment. But is there more in those containers than smuggled goods? Can Sebastian and Dani escape with their lives?
Like most sequels, Into the Blue 2 - The Reef is lukewarm entertainment. The film has some partial nudity, a lot of gratuitous frolicking and beach volleyball, violence, and a not-very-original plot. The scenery is beautiful, but the movie itself is tepid.
