Cooking is a flavor skill that can be a lot of fun in LOTRO. It will not make a player rich, and should be taken up only if it fits a specific character.

Foods are an important part of the stories J.R.R. Tolkein told about Middle Earth. Because of this it is not a surprise that the designers chose to include the cooking trade skill as a craft that players could pursue. Cooking in Lord of the Rings Online is implemented slightly differently from the way it is in other games. It allows the crafter to make useful food items or brew tasty beverages that can be shared with the members of their fellowship.

Supporting Tradeskills for the LOTRO Cooking Skill

The forestry and farming skills help a player gather the raw materials he needs to prepare the more complex culinary creations, but they are not needed for a player go get to a tier 4 level of expertise. The items that allow the player to get away with simply raising the skill are outlined later in this guide.

Because of the bizarre way cooking was implemented in Lord of the Rings Online, it can be quite expensive to buy the materials, and while the high level foods do have a market in the game, the lower level foods do not.

Getting to Tier 4 with the LOTRO Cooking Skill

Lord of the Rings Online trade skills have a unique level system. Every time a craftsman makes an item, he earns a certain number of tier points. After a certain amount of tier points have been earned, he must visit a master of apprentices to do the quests that will allow him to advance to the next tier level of the skill. A list of recipes a player can make to get through tiers one one through for are included below.

Tier 1 – Hard Biscuits

Tier 2 – Complete Hobbit Breakfast (this doesn't need other trade skills?)

Tier 3 – Delicious Crispy Bacon

Tier 4 – Spiced Apple Pie and Shire Rations

Tier 5 – Lembas

Cooking is Not Profitable in Lord of the Rings Online

Players wishing to take up a trade skill to earn extra money for their characters should consider taking up another skill such as prospecting or forestry. While there is a market for player made food, it is not a large one and the goods do not sell for much more than they were made. Of course, unlike other skills, it provides a steady income as these items are consumable.

A Lord of the Rings Online player should pick up this skill for flavor or because he enjoys and not to expect to make
