How to shave skin safely
How to protect your skin while you are shaving.
Most of us shave at least every other day, but if not done properly, shaving can be very damaging to the skin. Here are some tips to help minimise damage and care for your skin whether you are male or female.
The right razor:
Choose a razor that has a head that moves up and down when you apply pressure to it. Try to find one with moisturising strips in it too.
Water water everywhere:
Did you know that water plays a greater part in softening the hairs than shave gel does? Thoroughly wet your skin with warm water before you shave.
Gel:
Choose a foaming gel, one that has moisturising properties. If you can find one, use a shaving mousse, the more the gel or mousse lathers up, the more it will protect your skin and the closer shave you will get.
Avoid alcohol based gels as these will dry your skin out.
Shave:
Many people believe that you should shave only against the grain, many people believe that you should shave only with the grain, you should do both.
Shave with the grain first and then gently go over the area against the grain to catch any hairs you may have missed. Don’t be too heavy handed, let the razor do the work, if you press too hard you will damage your skin.
Replace your blades at least once a month.
Rinse:
Rinse thoroughly in warm water, make sure it is not too hot.
Care:
To avoid ingrowing hairs, you should exfoliate your skin regularly and use an in growing solution after you shave.
Moisturise:
Use a non-scented moisturiser and apply it generously and rub it in gently.
