Football                                           

Mexicans can teach you how to be a professional footballer. In Mexico football is the most popular sport. There are amateur and professional teams. Most of the time,Mexico qualifies for the World Cup. At the right side of the page you will see the Mexican football team.

                                 

Bullfighting

A next very popular sport in Mexico is bullfighting. A professional matador (the man fighting the bull) comes into a bullfighting ring with an angry bull and uses a cape to distract the bull. Although it is quite enjoyable to the spectators it is very dangerous for the matador. In many cities in Mexico, there are bullfighting rings. Mexico City has the largest bullfighting ring, it seats about 55,000 people.

Pelota/Jai Lai

Pelota, also known as Jai Lai, is a very fast and dangerous game. Players use a wicker basket to throw a ball against the wall in front of the court .It may sound easy but it is very hard. The cesta (the basket) measures about 60 centimetres. One end of the cesta has a glove for the player’s hand. The end of it is to catch and throw the ball.The pelota (the ball) weighs 130 grams and its diameter is 5 centimetres in length. It can travel at 80 miles per hour.

International Sports

Other sports played in Mexico are basketball, baseball, tennis and golf. However, these sports are not as popular as the ones mentioned above. Football is the only popular international sport in Mexico.
