Adsense does not pay the same for every keyword. One may earn you vastly more money than another. Here's how you can figure out which will pay you the most.

When writing online, it is crucial that you base your content around a specific keyword or phrase. This will help to boost your rankings in the search engines as well as maximize how much money you can make online with your writing. This is especially important when working with Google Adsense. Adsense does not pay the same for every keyword. One may earn you vastly more money than another. One may perform better in search engines than another. This is why you must pick wisely to maximize how much you can earn while boosting your visibility online.

1) Open up Google's own keyword tool. This tool is meant for users of Google's Adwords advertising system, but it works just as well for our purposes.

2) SEARCH VOLUME

The search volume columns give us an interesting insight into a keyword. They show the approximate number of searches that were completed using a given keyword. This is important to note. A keyword with a very low search volume won't get as much traffic for one very simple reason: Fewer people are searching for it. Pick a keyword that has a large search volume. This will ensure that you are picking a popular topic and will get plenty of traffic to your website or content.

3) ADVERTISER COMPETITION

Advertiser competition shows us how many Adwords advertisers are using a given keyword. As a general rule, high Advertiser Competition indicates that it will be more difficult to rank well in Google for that keyword. Now, it doesn't mean it can't be done. It can. Absolutely. But you will have to do more work to rank well. I recommend that you choose keywords with a moderate amount of Advertiser Competition. Don't pick a keyword with an empty bar, but avoid keywords with a full bar. Anywhere in between usually works great.

4) AVERAGE CPC

Make sure the average Cost Per Click (CPC) is shown by choosing the "Choose Columns to Display" drop down menu. By looking at the average Cost Per Click - what an advertiser PAYS to use that keyword in an ad - we can figure out how much you will EARN per click. The more an advertiser has to spend, the more money you will earn. So pick keywords with a decent CPC.

When making your final decision, pick a keyword with....

  • Medium amount of Advertiser Competition - Too much competition will make things difficult
  • Good Cost Per Click (CPC) - These will earn you more money online with Adsense
  • Large search volume (popular topics) - Popular topics will get more traffic These keywords will be the most likely to earn you the most money online.
