Can I Be Fixed?

People have flaws. That's part of what makes us interesting. But too often we want to be "fixed." Is that good or not?

Everyone has flaws. We're too fat or too skinny, too shy or too loud, too tall or too short. We look for and scrutinize our flaws. .

Boy, can I relate to that! I'm my own worst critic.

All my life, I've looked for my flaws.  They're not hard to find:  My eyesight, weight, low confidence, and now diabetes and high blood pressure.

More than once, I've wondered if I can be fixed.  Let me tell you, folks, it doesn't end with high school or college.  Self-improvement is an on-going journey.  If you think you're as improved as you need to be, wait five minutes, it'll change.

Ha!  So the path to self-improvement is like Oklahoma weather that way.  ;)

There is a simple answer to the question:  Yes.  I can be "fixed."  But will I like who I am when it's done?

Our experiences, whether as fat chicks, skinny chicks, or average chicks, have a large impact on who we are, who we become.

I think even plastic surgery would impact that.  I fantasize about having liposuction.  (I doubt it will ever happen, but I can dream.)

How will that change me?

I don't mean physically.  I mean how will the core of who I am change?

Will I become obsessed with how I look?  Depressed over a single ounce gained?  (Yes, that's a bit extreme, but--again--yes, I know people like that.)

There are some ways I can be fixed or repaired that aren't quite so dramatic as liposuction but have more positive results without any negative personality changes.  I've touched on some of those in previous posts on this blog.

Clothes: I know what looks good for me.  I don't necessarily follow current trends because they don't always work for my body.  For example, I love those little cute empire-waist shirts and dresses.  I can't wear them to save my life.  I look like I'm the size of an elephant.  Thanks, but I'm big enough as it is; let's not make me look larger than I am.

Health: When I make better food choices and keep my blood sugar and blood pressure under control, I feel better about me, not to mention feeling better in general.

Psychological issues: I still have times of low confidence/self-esteem.  Honestly, if you show me someone who says they never have moments like that, I will show you a first-class liar.  Everyone may not struggle with it like I have (and like I occasionally still do), but they do--or have--on some level.

In many things, I prefer to focus on the positive aspects rather than the negative.  There are several things I could have a legitimate pity party about, but why would I want to do that?

Accept the best and change the rest; that's the only way you can be "fixed."
