One of the things that makes Firefox such a popular browser is because of the plethora of browser plugins available to users; many of which provide enhanced security and privacy.

Adblock Plus -- This add-on is great for getting rid of many unwanted ads on any web page. It's flexible too; if you don't want to remove the ads on a certain web site, you can simply click the ABP logo in your browser to bring up a menu that allows you to disable ad blocking for that website. This type of security is especially useful if you have children on the web that you don't want running into questionable content.

Web of Trust -- WOT informs you of potentially harmful sites before you use them. It utilizes a reliable rating system to rate website content on privacy, child safety, vendor reliability, and trustworthiness. The 3 colored rings signify the safety level: Green means go! Exercise caution with Yellow... Stop for red. It also has a parental security control type option.

BetterPrivacy -- In short, this add-on does exactly what the name implies: It provides better privacy. It does it by protecting you from a super tracking cookie of sorts utilized by many flash plug-ins that, once acquired by the user (you), never will be deleted from your computer. BetterPrivacy will delete these for you on each browser exit to prevent unwanted tracking of you.

NoScript -- This add-on is my personal favorite, but also requires the most interaction. Simply put NoScript disables all JavaScript, Java and Flash on every website as well as Cross-Site-Scripting (XSS) unless you explicitly allow them to run. This provides an incredible amount of control and security, but can be annoying at times when you just need a video to play on a page that hasn't been added to the 'allowed' list. If you can get past that nuisance, you will be browsing much more safely.
