Why can’t aviation impacts on the environment be lessened?

Aviation had caused lot of upheavals in the environment. The deepening effects of aviation had continued to be a major issue in world environment body meetings. If you look at the increase in flights in the last decade, you would find environment had taken a huge dig due to aviation impacts.

Why can’t aviation impacts on the environment be lessened? You need to peep through the extent of collateral damage that aviation had done to the environment. Before you try and understand the impact of aviation on the environment, you need to find out the causes of aviation impacts on the environment. The more you go through the aviation findings the more you would get concerned about the drastic effects of aviation on the environment.

Causes of aviation impacts

The rise in flights across the globe is probably the biggest cause of aviation impacts on the environment. Aviation fuels had been the real threat to the environment. Take a look at the high combustion fuel in aircrafts and what does it emit.

  • Very high quantity of gases and harmful particles are emitted out of the running aircrafts. What are those gases?
    1. Carbon-di-oxide is the major gas that goes right into the earth’s atmosphere. The burning of jet fuels such as Jet-a, or avgas releases carbon-di-oxide which is quite harmful.
    2. Apart from Co2 emissions, greenhouse gas also comes out while manufacturing aircrafts,
    3. If you talk of gases, there are few other gases that are released from the aircraft while it is on air. Gases such as nitrogen-di-oxide, nitric oxide, sulphur oxide, carbon-mono-oxide and water vapor are also released.
    4. Finally, you have hydrocarbons, tetra-ethyl-lead and hydroxyls which also get released from the aircrafts.

The release of gases in the earth’s atmosphere does extensive damage to the environment. Imagine the type of gases that are been released in the atmosphere, the gases are highly poisonous, and the effects of those gases on individuals can be highly dangerous.

Consequences of aviation impacts

  • The first obvious aviation impacts on the environment are the pollution. The poisonous gases that are released on the air had seriously affected those who reside close to airports. Headaches and heart problems are two of the health hazards that are highly reported in areas close to airports.
  • Secondly, the gas that comes out of the aircraft is the main platform for global warming. Jets that fly in high altitude forms ozone layers that are thick, and are one of the major contributors of global warming.
  • The nitric oxide gas that comes out of aircraft reduces levels of methane in the atmosphere, which again results in global warming, because methane cools down the atmosphere, and reducing it, affects the environment.

Aviation impacts on the environment are one of the major issues that need to be tackled by the environmentalists. If not, the residents of this earth would have to face serious repercussions.
