An Edible Vegetable Centerpiece or Gourmet Bouquet

A gourmet bouquet is simply an elaboration on the relish tray. It can be a pretty way to present simple carrots and celery or it can be more exotic with ears of baby corn and gourmet olives. It is a versatile and appetizing way to serve vegetables. Try it! An edible vegetable centerpiece is not that hard to make.

A gourmet bouquet can be made from vegetables, fruit, cheese and candy or any combination thereof.   The edible vegetable centerpiece that you see in the picture is one that I made for a New Year's Eve party.  It has celery, baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, cheese, candy orange slices, mini peanut butter cups, black olives and baby pickles.  Everyone loves gourmet bouquets and they are always well received.  Serve a nice vegetable dip alongside the centerpiece.  You can use whatever you like to eat and whatever is colorful.  Look in the produce section, the canned section, and the candy aisle to see what you might like.  If you choose to use candy it is nice to get something that is individually wrapped.  If you use candy that is not wrapped, just be sure that it doesn't get wet.  If you know how to make pretty garnishes such as radish roses, they look beautiful in a vegetable centerpiece.  Use your imagination!  If you can stick a toothpick in it, you can use it!

This is a great way to present the relishes at your next party or family get together.  Kids love it because it's fun and they will happily eat their vegetables.  You can use colors that reflect the holiday or occasion such as black olives and baby carrots for Halloween or red tomatoes and green pickles for Christmas.  You can even make one out of all candy, but that is a subject for another time!

Great idea!  Especially good for a project for Grandma and grandchildren to work on together.  That would be fun!
