Blood Death Knight Vs. Holy Paladin

Let me start by saying that I have a lot of experience in world of warcraft and considered myself one of the best in stormstrike until I retired a few months ago. I play every now and then just for kicks but devote most of my time sharing tips and tricks with others. I have played every class at 80 and know probably every trick there is to know. You don't need the best gear, or enchants, and epic gems to win. You just need to be calm, and follow my guide.

As a blood death knight there are some classes you love to see running by themselves, and there are some that you avoid. All death knights hate two things, Shamans and other Death Knights. You probably hate fighting other death knights the most, but after this, maybe you will have a change in heart.

First of all let me recommend a deep blood build with dancing rune weapon and dip into frost for lichborne and annihilation. This guide is based on a build similar to this with rune tap, hysteria, vampiric blood, lichborne, and dancing rune weapon.  You also need to learn to key bind if you are not already. This is a huge help and cuts down on the time your eyes are off the enemy.

I will go through a lot of different scenarios with you. Along the way I will throw in some tips you may have never saw before and some strategies that I know you have never used.

Just like all the other healing classes, holy paladins are healing classes and therefore easy to beat 1 v 1. This guide will follow suit and show you how to beat the paladin faster. You should have no problem dropping a holy paladin unless he is very well geared and skilled and outgears you by a lot.

Paladins have limited snares and has BOF to break your snares. You want to be in unholy presence and have your pet out. You will need the running increase because most holy paladins will dip into the ret tree for the run speed increase.

Holy paladins do have a little burst potential and can fool you if you are outgeared or outskilled badly. I will not go over when exactly to heal, but if needed use some of your healling skills.

You will start by closing the gap by running at the paladin instead of death grip. This is just in case you get snared by another class. You will need this in arenas for sure.

After you close the gap, you want to start your regular IT,PS,OB,HS,HS rotation. You will want to go thru a full 2 rotations and use your mind freeze when you can. Use the rest of your RP for death coils. After you IT,PS,OB,HS,HS,IT,PS,HS,HS,HS,HS and death coil when you can, you need to use:

/cast empowered rune weapon

/cast hysteria

/use (insert your trinket)

/cast dancing rune weapon

Before you start your dps, you need to blow strangulate. Then you want to burst with double OB and HS if your diseases are still up. You will either force the bubble or end the fight here. This fight should only last long enough for one bubble.

If he blows his bubble then the fight will probably start all over. While he is healing just use a bandage if you need to.

After he comes out of the bubble, you can start with your normal rotation again. You have blow all your damage CD's except your other trinket. Save it for the HS,HS,HS,HS portion of rotation 2. Remember that mind freeze timing is what will win this battle. Strangulate will not lock out the bubble but mind freeze will.

The paladin will probably not try to run, but if he does then all you have to do is COI rotation or just range him if he uses BOF.

If you are running a double dps set up in arenas, and you are trying to burst the paladin first, save your DRW macro for after the bubble because it will get used very fast. You want to draw any melee into range if you are dpsing the paladin, and on hunters and mages with paladins, make sure the pets are in range for a few HS when DRW is up. (You may have to DG the element if the paladin is locked down by your other dps.)

I usually go over common tactics and counters at this point, but Holy paladins vs dps is really a timing and dps race. Just learn to time your mind freeze and you will have this one wrapped up.
