Gunman Reported in Shopping Mall in Council Bluffs, Iowa
Well, here on the news, there was a report of a man "running through the mall with a gun." No one was shot, the mall was put under lockdown after it was evacuated, and the police and news reporters seemed to be just standing around doing not much of anything. Then they report that...
Eric had some doctor's appointments today and I had to drive him (since he was being sedated). So there I am, sitting in the waiting room with April, and on the TV there were your typical afternoon soap operas on. Well, was. On came "breaking news" for Omaha--Gunman at Mall of the Bluffs.
Mind you, Mall of the Bluffs is across the border in Council Bluffs, Iowa, but it's still, well, close enough. Most of us, even those who don't live here in Omaha, recall the Westroads Mall/Von Maur shooting in 2007 (more memorable to me, I suppose, since I was in the hospital having April watching all of it unfold on the news in my room). Stupid kid shot down random people before shooting himself, making it one of the biggest news stories for Omaha in years.
Well, here on the news, there was a report of a man "running through the mall with a gun." No one was shot, the mall was put under lockdown after it was evacuated, and the police and news reporters seemed to be just standing around doing not much of anything. Then they report that they "lost the suspect." Like he left the mall. Nowhere to be found. So, oh well, let's just open the mall back up. So they let everyone back in while all the hubbub wound down.
So I'm thinking, well, gee, maybe the guys hiding somewhere, in some stockroom or something, or gosh, I don't know, plans on coming back?
Either way, I figured there should have been something more done. And then I find out WHY nothing more was done--apparently, the gun that was referred to? Just a frickin' black umbrella. And the "mad gunman?" Just a gentleman minding his own business.
Wow. Seriously. That's got to be the funniest thing I've heard all day!
