Wonder why your nails suddenly deteriorate or become deformed? Here's why.

We notice at times that the nails, of our fingers or toes, deteriorate, too.  For unknown reasons, our nails become deformed although no injury afflicts them.  There are also instances that they grow over the other just like how a tooth grows over another.

There are many reasons why the nails deteriorate.  One of these is the genetic or systemic condition.  This is caused by tinea urgruim.  The nails are infected and become the reason why they are deformed.  In this condition, the lusters of the nails are lost, too, and then eventually they thicken and become brittle causing their deterioration.

Some are caused by allergy.  It can be that a person has allergy to nail polish.  This becomes the reason why the nail thickens and becomes deformed.

There is also a condition which in medical term is called onycholysis.  This is caused by the prolonged immersion or submersion to detergents, water and other chemicals.  This can also be caused by candida infection.

It is difficult to treat deteriorating nails caused by infection.  This would require prolonged treatment.  This can be treated one to one and a half years.  And even if it was treated there is possibility that the infection will repeat.

Some treatments involve the use of ketoconazole, terbinafine and itraconazole against the deterioration.  It is recommended though that those afflicted consult a specialist or an expert doctor in nail disorders before using the said treatments.
