Special Parents

Parents who were given a child with “special conditions” should not be disappointed with their situation. God chose them to handle this special assignment because He believes in their capabilities in handling “extra-ordinary tasks”.

A friend of mine is an average employee in our locality. He and his wife were married for almost ten years but were not fortunate enough to conceive a baby. My friend never stopped hoping that God will someday give them their much awaited child. His co-workers are actually making fun of him for asking God for a miracle child. But despite their mockery, he was never discouraged.

Finally last January 2008, his wife was finally pregnant. But when the child was born that same year, the baby was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. News about the condition of his child spread everywhere including in his workplace. When he returned to his office for the first time after his paternal leave, he was embarrassed and do not know how to face his co-workers since he knows how crooked-minded they were. He told me that before he entered his office, he prayed to God and asked Him to give him the strength and wisdom to face his enemies. As expected, his co-workers teased him and jokingly congratulated him by saying “Best wishes dude! God finally gave you a child!” and all his co-workers laughed mockingly. My friend almost lost his temper and wanted to punch his co-workers’ face. But God gave him the wisdom to answer “Thank you guys, I am so blessed for God gave this child to me and not to YOU!”

The story of my friend also reminded me that everyone in this planet, regardless of their physical abnormalities, is equal to the eyes of God. Everyone is valuable to Him.

Let us tell ourselves not to look down on other people and not to discriminate other human beings because of their physical conditions. All of us, in some ways have defects, it can be physical defects, psychological defects, emotional defects, personality defects and so on. Imperfections of some individuals may be seen physically, but we are no different from them because no human is perfect, not even YOU.

They sounds like the worst co-workers to be associated with. Yes, God gave him a blessing to be charished. If he doesn’t know right now, in the future he will find his calling on why God chose them to be the special parents.
