If you had kept ferret as pet then you are advised to take special care of your ferret’s teeth, as their good healthy teeth would also be good to the surroundings of your house. It would keep your house free of bacterial germs that could arise out of your ferret’s teeth.

What would you do to care for a ferret’s teeth?

The best way to start is, use tooth paste for your ferret’s teeth. Buy a ferret’s toothpaste, or if you don’t get one in the market, pick any baby toothpaste from the market.

If you think that you need to rub toothpaste over your ferret’s teeth every morning, and you are probably getting tired just by the thought of doing it, then you are mistaken. Don’t wash your ferret’s teeth often, do it once a month, or if you have lots of spare time, do it twice a month.

Doing it more than required would hurt your ferret’s gums around the teeth, and secondly, your ferret would swallow the tooth paste inside, more often. Both are harmful for a ferret. Follow simple steps to wash your ferret’s teeth.

  • Buy a tooth brush for your ferret. A baby tooth brush would be the best. Make sure that you use a very soft tooth brush for your ferret.
  • Put little paste on the tip of your ferret’s tooth brush. Rub slowly over the ferret’s teeth. If the ferret gets uneasy and wants to free herself from your clutches, then ask somebody to catch hold of your ferret, while you gently rub her teeth with tooth brush.
  • Continue the process for a minute, and then spill water inside her mouth with your hand. Rub thoroughly, but do not be harsh. Use your hands gently to wash her mouth.

Washing the ferret’s teeth would serve two purposes. The first is, it prevent germs to spoil the ferret’s teeth. The food particles get stuck inside the teeth and regular washing of your ferret’s teeth would ensure no cavity is formed.

Secondly, the bacterial germs vanish away. Since you keep your ferrets inside your homes, it’s good for your ferret to stay fresh; unclean teeth of your ferret might bring germs that could harm you.

Washing your ferret’s teeth is also a way to show that you care for her. It shows your love and affection toward your pet ferret. Clean her teeth once in a while, and help your pet to stay healthy.
