Free will, the ability to make decisions!
Free will is the ability to choose, the ability to make decisions. A human being with free will to make hundreds of choices every day; if he's up or not, what he has for breakfast, what he reads in the newspaper, what he sees on TV in the evening.
Most would say that they have a free will, but it means we really have it? When you go deep into the scientific, metaphysical and theological aspects of this phenomenon, namely, it begins to haunt for the free will.
The question is well; free will is something more than a well illusion?
Free will and determinism
Determinism is the belief that everything that happens depends on what has happened before. Ex nihilo nihil fit, nothing comes from nothing. The rain fell as the clouds rose to an altitude where the atmosphere was close to NOK to keep the water vapor, clouds came because the sun evaporated water, the sun evaporated water because the heat utsonderer due to chemical reactions in its interior, etc., etc. The extremely complex situations can any action is linked to another. It is here the famous butterfly effect has its origin, namely, that a butterfly beating its wings in Tokyo can cause hurricanes in California.
The French mathematician Laplace proposed a situation where a demon who knew everything about the present and the past to predict the future. To put it another way: Imagine a computer that has knowledge of the exact position, direction and speed of any particle in the universe, and uses this information to calculate the entire future of the universe down to the smallest detail.
This situation is not inconceivable, given that Determinism exists, and such a reality will mean death for the free will. If your actions could have been foreseen from the beginning of the universe, you will obviously not have had any choice in anything you've done or something you will do. All of your choice is a result of other things, events that have affected you, the weather, and with the colors around you when the election should be taken. All these factors are predictable, yourself included.
Free will and indeterminisme
Determinism was long the most accepted the direction of science, but not everyone agreed with it. For logically can not deterministic system have existed forever. One time or other it must have been an action without origin. Something must have come from nothing.
The idea that not everything could be assumed sees, and that free will, therefore, existed, was called Indeterminismen.
This direction was both his greatest victory when kvantefysikken was general acceptance. According to kvantefysikken the particles on the atomic level is not deterministic, they are probabilistic. A particle exists is not of a given point, it can exist in a number of points, and an impossible to predict exactly where it will exist until it is there. You do not notice this in everyday life, nor in most calculations and predictions, but it means that there are elements in the universe that can not be assumed sees. Thus, if kvantefysikken is true, something most scientists believe, is not determinism sufficient to describe the universe.
Free will and science
But this does not necessarily mean that there is free will. All it does is to change the "electoral process" from a response to the predictable events of unpredictable events. Any choice you make will in any case be a result of an infinite number of factors that affect you, everything from genes to the growth of smaller things that the food you get in you, what you have seen during the day, how much exhaust it is in the air, etc. . Your response to an event is a calculation. Your mind calculates factors, nevroner in your brain reacts in a particular way, nerve impulses will be sent from the brain to the body, and you act. Depending on your life and circumstances around you, you will either steal chocolate from the shop or not.
Your ability to choose whatever is hindered by your own body. Substances in your body can affect your ability to act rationally by strong feelings of love, depression, anger, fear and sexual excitement. A panikkslagent man can not be said to have free will, and it is not rare that the phrase "insane moment in deed" has been used in a Courtroom. An imbalance in the chemical substances that affect your feelings can lead to any loss of free will, by a so-called insanity.
In many ways, the idea of free will absurd, then it means that you even initiate the reaction in your brain, a self-activating process, which is impossible. It would be as if a button to press for themselves.
Free will and religion
A possible solution to this problem is the soul. This soul will be a mechanism that is created by factors independent of known physical laws, and that even has such independence, ie a supernatural or religious factor. This mechanism will make it possible for us to really make their own decisions, as opposed to thinking beings without a soul (usually expensive, and, in modern times, artificial intelligence). It is such a soulful Jewish philosophy says that the free will come from.
Free will is central to most religions, most religions concerning the choice between the right and wrong. In the old fable of Adam and Eva is the free will of the symbolized forbudne fruit. The people had free will so they not only were slaves of God, but could worship him of their choice. For that such a scheme would work, had Adam and Eva have the opportunity to defy God, just by eating of wisdom while the three.
This creation account is central to the three prominerende monotheistic world religions. Of these three are the NOK Kristendommen that put options subject to its most extreme: faith in the Savior and experience eternal happiness, or let the weather and experience eternal pain.
But these religions antagonize itself, in that the idea of the free will is incompatible with the idea of the almighty, omniscient god. If God created everything, and God knows everything, how can he judge you for an action, he not only knew about since He created the universe, but himself is responsible for?
This will be discussed in the Torah. If God knows that a man will be good, it will be impossible for the man to be anything other than good, but if God knows he will be good but at the same time have the opportunity to be sinful, God does not know everything.
The conclusion is that the two concepts are still reconciling all, but since God is outside time and beyond human understanding, we will not find an answer to the paradox. So free will will only be possible by laws that operate outside of the universe known refinements. Once again the supernatural and incomprehensible to explain the phenomenon.
The consequences of a universe without free will
A world without free will is a world without risk. How can you blame for something you could not have done differently? This argument was used by humanitarian on 18 - and 19-century, including the Clarence Darrow, an American lawyer who used it in his defense of two murderers in 1920-century. But the rule applies not only to undesirable behavior, it applies to ALL behavior, including community response to an offense. A jury can not blame the judge for a man to death, nor a brave fireman congratulations to save lives. Any action will be an automatic response to your circumstances.
One may ask themselves about what really separates animals from humans. The popular definition is that humans are not governed by their instincts, that they have the ability to think about their own existence, and that they feel love and closeness with each other.
An ant has no ego, it feels no pain or fear, but working throughout his life without stop. When it meets an obstacle, it will calculate the easiest way to get around it, when it is threatened, it will attack. It is a calculator with legs and a number of relatively simple program shaped by millions of years of development.
Are people really more than an advanced version of this machine? Is the main difference, fundamentally, a series of higher-developed applications?
If we are not governed by instincts, we are apparently still controlled by a calculating process affected by chemicals, genes and experience. And there are still many situations where we largely follow our instincts; love can be explained as a beneficial ability to carry on the species further, the biological clock and our almost unique sexdriv likewise.
Artificial intelligence is artificial because it does not really intelligent, then it can not take their own decisions, but only calculates the information it receives in such a sophisticated way that it creates the illusion of real intelligence. Without free will, people have, by definition, nothing more than artificial intelligence.
This will be difficult to join the human being. For one, it is far from a desirable conclusion. Second, it requires a monumental shift in our thinking that the nihilism and anarchy for their absolute extremes. Nothing will have any impact, no action will have the moral consequence, guilt would be absurd. One man's sorrow or joy is without significance, since both are inevitable, and not really genuine, then it is not thinking beings in question. One that actively advocates to convince others of that free will does not exist, in a manner to be hypocrite, in a different way never been accused of hypocrisy, when he only acted as he had to respond, but if some still accused him of the , it would be fully understandable.
In all human beings would assent to its lack of choice required a restructuring of society so monumental that it's hard to imagine.
Conclusion
According to the information people per today possesses, is free will not be possible without the forces that follow other rules than those we observe in our own universe. Although this does not totally exclude the free will, it seems that the only logical conclusion, especially for atheists and Agnoia, is that free will is really an illusion, that the freedom of choice throughout the religious and political and philosophical directions are based on simply the not existing. Whichever way you analyze it, philosophical, religious or scientific, there is no logical conclusions that openly defends the free will, while it apparently is refuted time and again.
aftrwords
It is comforting to know that few who read this will believe in it, for in this situation, ignorance is truly a joy. My own belief on this is mostly theoretical. I accept it, and in many ways it has a drastic impact on how I see the world, but live as if it is not true, not only because I prefer it such, but because I could not clear anything else if I tried. So if you read this and are extremely disagree; great! It is the only right thing to do. Freedom is perhaps an illusion, but it is a very good and welcoming one.
