Sick of your gamertag? Buy a new one!

Does your gamertag not show your true personality anymore? Do you no longer "luvjason?" Here is how you can dump the old gamertag on your XBox Live account and obtain a brand spankin' new one! Read on to learn the steps to change your username and live your life as "luvjoey." ;)

Step 1

On your XBox 360 Dashboard screen (when you load up your system), go to the My XBox section of the screen.

Step 2

Click on your gamercard by pressing A on your controller, and then select "Edit Profile" and then "Gamertag." (See where this is going?)

Step 3

You will see a "Change Gamertag" screen in front of you. Read the information carefully, select "Continue" and then on the next screen, make the changes you want. You can either add, delete, change or totally rename yourself. Go on, make a new identity--there's no stopping you now!

Step 4

You will then be asked to confirm the purchase you are making (this costs Microsoft Points, you know!). This will then change your gamertag to the new one you made, changes and all!

Step 5

Next time, leave your "significant other" out of your gamertag name--this will save you the trouble (and hard-earned Microsoft Points) of doing this later down the road. Just food for thought.

Remember, it costs (as of the writing of this article, that is) 800 Microsoft Points to change your gamertag. But really, if you have your ex's name in your gamertag, it's really time to change it and move on!
