The health benefits of water

Water is besides oxygen the second most important element to survive and even 25% of oxygen comes from water. We can consider water as the fuel of our body and our organs can't function without it just like a car can't drive without gas or oil.

Water is essential to our health and we can't live without it for more than 100 hours. Our body contains between 60% and 70% of water and it is a necessity to regulate our body temperature and to balance the loss of water through urination or sweating. Drinking water is necessary to avoid dehydration and is vital for our organs to work properly.

A lack of water can cause several health problems and drinking other beverages like coffee or tea can't provide the necessary water supply in our body. These beverages absorb 2/3 of water and caffeine can cause dehydration. Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages cause also dehydration and you may need to drink more water if you consume these beverages. Drinking water can't be replaced by any other beverage.

The average amount of water you need to drink daily is 1,5 liter but you may need to drink more dependent on certain circumstances, for example when you exercise, hot weather, pregnancy, illness. These reasons cause a loss of water and need to be replaced by drinking plenty of water.

Here are some reasons why drinking plenty of water is good for your health:

*To avoid dehydration

Dehydration can cause diarrhea, headache, pain in your muscles, loss of memory and even death. Drinking plenty of water is necessary to avoid these effects and stay healthy. A thirsty feeling is already a sign of dehydration and you need immediately to start drinking water to avoid more health problems.

 *To increase your energy levels

Drinking water will increase your energy levels because you avoid dehydration. Enough water in your body provides that the necessary blood flows to your muscles and will increase your energy level. You will be able to exercise more or to do efforts which require much energy.

*Decreasing the risk of several cancers

There are several studies done which show that drinking water reduces the risk of developing certain cancers, for example colon cancer, breast cancer, bladder cancer and some others. Drinking water provides more oxygen and a lack of oxygen is one of the main reasons to develop cancer. Water will also reduce the concentration of cancer-causing agents in the urine

*Improving your immune system

Dehydration will cause that toxins stay in your body. Drinking plenty of water will help you to remove these out of your body. An improved immune system will help us to fight against bacteria and viruses.

*Relieve digestion problems and prevent constipation

Our digestive system needs a large amount of water to properly work. Digestion problems are often a consequence of dehydration and that is the reason why drinking water will help you to relieve and even prevent these problems. It is also helpful to prevent constipation for the same reason.

*To stay hydrated during pregnancy

We always need water to stay hydrated but during pregnancy hormones change the way women store water and also their blood volume increases. It is important for the baby they drink more water than usual to avoid dehydration and even premature labor.

Water is essential for our health and to stay alive. We need water for all our organs and a lack of water causes dehydration which is responsible for many health problems. It cleans our body and can keep toxins out of our body. Drinking plenty of water can provide us a longer and healthier life.
