How to Install Windows 7 RC1 for Free
Microsoft has officially released Windows 7 RC1 to the public for a trail period of 1 year
Microsoft has officially released Windows 7 RC1 to the public for a trail period of 1 year. Windows 7 RC1 can be used for 1 year with the Product Key provided at the time of download. After the trail period you will have to purchase Windows 7 if you want to continue to use it. Below I have outlined the steps you need to take in obtaining a copy of Windows 7 RC1 and installing it.
Step1:
You will need to obtain a Windows Live ID before you can download the software. Go to http://www.live.com and sign up for your free Live ID.
Step2:
Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx and carefully read the entire page. This page explains the minimum computer requirements and what you need to do before installing Windows 7 RC1.
Step3:
At the bottom of the page select the 32bit or 64bit version of the program you want to install and select GO.
Step4:
Sign in with your Windows Live ID and write down your Product Key number and begin the download.
Step5:
After Windows 7 RC1 has been downloaded you will need to burn it to a DVD with image burning software. You can download free image burning software from the internet. The one I use is called ImgBurn and it can be downloaded from http://www.imgburn.com.
Step6:
I strongly suggest you install Windows 7 RC1 as a new install on a spare hard drive. Windows 7 RC1 can not be installed as an upgrade on Windows XP. According to Microsoft you can install Windows 7 RC1 on a PC running Windows Vista.
