How to Boot Windows 2000 In Safe Mode

There are many reasons why one would need to boot up their PC in safe mode. It allows your PC to load up the bare-minimum that Microsoft Windows needs in order to function. This is great when you have an error on your computer caused by a newly added application and allows you to troubleshoot what went wrong.

If you are running Windows 2000 on your computer and need to boot in Safe Mode, this is the tutorial for you! 

Step 1
Start or restart your computer, either with Control+Alt+Delete or with your power button, depending on how you are using your computer at the moment. 

Step 2
You'll see your computer loading up all the hardware and equipment that is installed on your computer. As soon as you see the screen that says, "Starting Windows...," continually press the F8 key on your keyboard until your computer shows an Advanced Options menu.

Step 3
At this menu, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select Safe Mode.

Step 4
Hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard once you have selected Safe Mode to boot up your PC's Windows 2 000in Safe Mode.

Tips and Tricks

* In Windows 2000, there is only one way to boot up the software in Safe Mode. These same steps can be used to boot up Safe Mode in later versions of Windows as well.

* Be sure you know what you're doing before you go messing with important data files on your computer. Be sure to have an experienced computer user or your favorite nerd neighbor to help you out and supervise your actions!
