Companies can advertise their products over the internet. They need to run a website. For a site to be available on the internet it must be copied to a web server and this is called web hosting. However individuals can host by their own, they usually opt their site to be hosted by someone who provides hosting service. Webhost will offer service for money or for free. Free hosts can be opted in case of sites that possess low traffic, low connection speed etc...

Clients opting this service can feel  free from problems of hosting such as hardware requirements and certificates, software requirements and certificates then problem and cost involved in licensing, cost involved for maintaining the servers all the 24 hrs a day etc… Web hosts provide free or shared or dedicated type of hosting service. Obviously free hosting means hosting a site with no cost which is ideal for low traffic low scale business sites. Shared hosting refers to the case in which our site runs on a server parallel to many sites which runs on same server. This is less secure but low cost and suited for medium traffic sites. Dedicated service is the one in which one site runs per server which is costly and suited for heavy traffic sites. Collocation is the case in which we run our own server.
