Knowing how to treat bone bruise could prevent further injuries. Learn some tips here:

Bone bruise is a painful injury that nearly fractures a bone but not quite. It is painful to touch and difficult to move.  It could lead to future problems if not treated accordingly. Sometimes accidents cannot be avoided; a bone bruise forms when a bone is struck by an object or when an athlete falls. It is good to recognize the symptoms of bone bruise so that it may not worsen.  Applying preventive measures and treatment on the affected area really helps.

There are some ways  how to treat the affected area.

1.    Use ice cubes on the affected  area for 5 to 10 minutes three times a day to lessen the

possible swelling and  help it heal faster. Elevating it can also reduce swelling.

 2. Let it rest. It is extremely easy to re-injure the area and cause even more damage, and  more

pain to the bone bruise. Try as much as possible, not to use the area where the bone bruise is.

Take it easy and avoid exercise, sports and contact as much as you can. Rest is the most

most important part of recovery.

 3. Take over-the-counter painkillers containing ibuprofen or acetaminophen to reduce pain.

Follow the directions and recommendations listed on the bottle.

 4.  Be patient. The healing process may take days to weeks or even months

depending on the severity of the injury. This is especially true with traumatic bone bruises which can take months to heal.

 5. If  intense pain continues, check with your doctor. Even if you believe it is just bone bruise,

a confirmation is the best medicine from further damage. Doctor will prescribe medication

and follow instructions strictly.
