The combined task force 150 was formed with a purpose. The purpose was not just to thwart the growing piracy in high seas.

The combined task force 150 was formed with a resolute aim to eradicate piracy acts across the seas. The growing menace of pirates, especially the Somalia pirates whose control of the high seas was seen as a major hurdle to the international trade had propelled international agencies to resist piracy acts.

It became necessary for the developed countries to initiate a plan that would provide safer and secured sea routes.

The goals of combined task force 150 were quite simple.

It was formed to patrol high seas, and ensure safety to the passengers, crew and trade.

The combined task force 150 was based on the principles of fighting terror on the sea.

The entire force was a well knit unit of 20 countries who had vowed to fight the pirates together. They had pledged to provide their own national force to control seas and work with international force to make the sea route more viably safer.

Though, the combined task force 150 was established to counter terror, its anti-piracy goals goes beyond that. The international community fears a possible linkage of pirates with the Islamic fundamental terrorists, and if that happens, things could turn worse for the enemies of those terrorists.

There are probably millions of dollars that goes to the coffers of pirates every year through kidnapped crews and plundered wealth on the seas. Just imagine the situation, if that money goes into wrong hands.

The presence of pirates had the possibilities of disruption of trade routes, which possibly could affect global economy in a negative way.

One of the important tasks that were handed to the combined task force 150 was to prevent the smuggling of arms and drugs trafficking in the Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Red sea. The combined task force 150 was included in the Maritime security patrol to disrupt, dissuade and catch maritime criminals and bring them to the courts of law.

The fundamental anti-piracy goals of combined task force 150 were to dismantle piracy movements in high seas and prevent the exchange of logistics between pirates and the Islamic terrorists.

The rise in the number of terror activities by the so called Islamic terrorists had made things difficult for the international community. The sea route had always been a major path which terrorists took to smuggle weapons and high value narcotics. To plug in the sea route would be one step forward to thwart terrorists attempt to gain control of high seas.

The combined task force 150 had played a major part in bringing down the number of criminal activities in the Gulf of Aden. It had also made the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean much safer to what it was earlier.
