Sinus problems – sinusitis – are  all too common for many people. How to treat sinusitis problems is a concern that plague most of us. Nasal congestion, severe pain across the nose and checks and behind the eyes as well as headaches are symptoms of sinusitis. Other common symptoms include bad breath, a cough that produces mucus, fever, pain in your teeth, and reduced sense of taste or smell. This is usually occurs when exposed to air pollution, smoke, change of  climate (cold weather)  or swimming in a contaminated water. There are numerous ways to help relieve and treat sinusitis even at home.

1.Drink plenty of fluid to help your mucus become thin.

2. Oral medication. Try over-the-counter pain relievers and decongestant pills (nonprescription medications ex. nasal spray) to help relieve the  pain and pressure in your head and face.  Sinusitis could be caused by bacterial infection which can be treated  with antibiotics.  This medication should be with doctor’s prescription.

3. Apply moist heat (using a hot, damp towel or gel pack) to your face for 5 to 10 minutes, several times a day.

4. Use saltwater nasal washes (saline lavage or irrigation) to help keep the nasal passages open and wash out mucus and bacteria.

5. If you need to blow your nose, do it gently. Forceful blowing may force thick mucus back into your sinuses and block them. Keep both nostrils open when blowing your nose.

6. Breathe warm, moist air from a steamy shower, a hot bath, or a sink filled with hot water.

7. Surgical treatment. If you have taken antibiotics and other medicines for a long time but still

sinusitis persist you may need surgery. In addition, if the infection is likely to spread or if you have other problems, such as a growth (polyp) blocking the nasal passage you may require surgery.
