Immigration’s Positive Effects

Immigration has been and always will be a controversial area of discussion. But if we really look at the facts, we will have to agree on one fact. Immigration has had a positive effect on our employment, friendship with other countries, and our population growth.

One good thing immigration has done for our economy involves employment. Americans, as a whole, tend to stay away from the small jobs. These jobs often involve hard work for little pay. Some of these jobs are in tobacco, fruit farms, taking care of livestock, working in saw mills, or farming all together. These jobs involve working in the hot sun in the summer and out in the cold wind in the winter.

Americans tend to think of themselves as too good to work the these jobs. We tend to think we are too good to work for a minimum wage paying job. All too often, I hear people say “I am not working that job for that amount of money”.

Another thing immigration has done for our country is forge a bond between us and different countries. Immigrants come from Egypt, Africa, Hong Kong, Brazil, Cambodia, Jordan, United Kingdom, Mexico, Salvador, etc. These are a few of the countries we get to know and form a friendship with because we allow their people to work and/or become citizens in America. Our children grow up learning to get along and be friends.

America co-joins with different organizations to brings different cultures here to learn and work. Different companies work with the government to house, school, and work the immigrants that qualify for certain programs. Sudanese is one such place. Some of the factories,

In close vicinity of the schools and homes of immigrants, sponsor such programs called Educating the Minority.

The last positive effect immigration has had on our economy is our population has grown tremendously since allowing immigrants to work here and/or become naturalized citizens. Usually, when immigrants is allowed to come to America, they bring a large family with them. The family size can range from four to eight people. This allows for different types of restaurants and food varieties in the street markets.

The birthrate of immigrants, after becoming citizens, has grown. Those that do not bring a large family tend to expand their family size once they are settled into their new homes. Since there is a lot of expense in moving from one country to another, some will even wait to start their families until they get to America. This has a better effect on their ability to learn and speak english. Therefore, this does away with the language barrier.

  1. You will hear people voice different opinions about immigration in the United States of America. Can we really say that America don’t already pollute the air with smoke from cars? Our lack of judgement, in spreading diseases after a particular disease comes to America, helps to spread diseases. According to Daniel Hamermes, an economist at the University of Texas,      “ immigrants are no more likely to be working nights or be injured on the job than American born workers. (pg. 1, par. 3) Jason DinAlt states, in the Carrying Capacity Network’s Focus, “that by immigrants becoming Americans, they adopt the consumption and pollution patterns of the world’s most environmentally destructive lifestyle. (pg. 1, par. 2)So it is not really fair to blame

all of America’s bad aspects and habits on the immigrants when Americans are teaching them to do these things. We are so quick to point the finger of blame, that we do not stop to see that we are only hurting our children by teaching them racism and criticism. When we should be teaching them to do right by others and treat them fairly.

Good attitude given that each culture has many subcultures to which people belong. Stereotyping people can be misleading and harmful, and often has no basis in fact. It is great that you have addressed the positive influences that different cultures have on society in general. I enjoyed your article BossLady2580.
