How to play "Pickomino" ("Heckmeck")

An appetizingly laid-back dice game for 2 to 7 gambling squeakers

The youngest player gets the 8 dice and begins the game. He rolls all 8 dice at once, then lays aside all the of any value, for example all dices showing a 2 or all dice showing a worm. He adds up all the dice that he has laid aside. Each worm collected is worth 5 points.

The player may roll once more the dice that he has not laid aside. From this roll, he now picks all the dice of another value (If the player has for example placed apart all the dice showing a 2, he must not choose the 2 now).

The player may  continue rolling the dice and placing dice apart, until he:

a) Finishes his turn voluntarily
b) causes a failed attempt.

A)
A player may finish his term voluntarily any time. He now adds the values of all the dice that he has placed apart. At least one of the dice must show a worm - otherwise it is considered a failed attempt (see B point).
If the sum of the dice that the player has placed apart reaches exactly the value of a roasted worm portion that is on the grill or in front of another player, face up, he can take it and place it in frotn of him on the table.
Each new portion is placed face-up on top of the last one collected, thus building a stack. Each player has only one stack in front of him.

Stealing worm portions
If the collected dice add up to exactly the number of a visible roasted worm portion that is lying on top of another player's stack, face up, he can take it and place it on top of his onw stack, face up.

B)
It may occur that a player:

  • Cannot take any worm portion at the end of his turn, because the sum of the dice that he has placed apart is not enough or he was not able to collect any worms.
  • Gets a dice roll that has only numbers and worms that he has already collected.
The player's attempt has failed and he does not get anything. In additio, he must return the worm portion that he has previously collected (that is the one on top of his stack) and place it back on the grill. Then, he turns over (face down) the highest available worm portion on the grill. This portion cannot be acquired for the remainder of the game. If the returned portion is the currently highest number on the grill, it remains face-up. In this case, no portion is turned over.
A) Special case
If the worm portion that corresponds to the sum of the dice that the player has placed apart is neither on the worm grill nor visible on the stack of another player, he takes another portion from the grill that has a lower value. If there is no portion with lower value available, the player has caused a failed attempt.
B) If the player cannot return any worm portion because he has none left, no worm portion on the grill is turned over.
The winner is player who has most worms. (If you have 3 dice and all three dice shows a 4, you really have 12 (3x4) worms.)
