The development of a video game series Grand Theft Auto for Wii is on hold. Nintendo said weeks ago that the arrival of their best known saga in the console Nintendo depends on the success of Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars. The first game of the series was released exclusively for Nintendo DS. We now know that the game has sold less than 100,000 copies (89,000) in Northern America during the month of March. This is not exactly a low figure, but nobody knows if Nintendo is satisfied with this figure.

These records are well below what might be expected for a game of the Grand Theft Auto series. The sales figure is even lower than the forecasts of analysts, who expected a record for this game of about 200,000 copies per month. Independent of the strong acceptance by the critics of the game, GTA Chinatown Wars sold 89,000 copies during the month of March. This is well below the forecast between 200,000 or 250,000 copies.Initial expectations of Nintendo predicted sales of $2 millions for the first year of life of the game. Now, these estimates are at 500,000 copies, of about $1 million in revenue.

Despite some reviews, experts believe the game, as a first experiment of the series in the portable Nintendo - has not worked badly regarding quality. Despite having found some problems with its acceptance in the market, the game is fun to play and technically perfect. Perhaps is only a question of time until customers know how to appreciate this Nintendo game.

The game is highly addictive. Nintendo DS players are probably not accustomed to this type of game, and hence the low sales. However, anyone believes that sales will improve with months, since Nintendo is advertising heavily Grand Theft Auto China Town Wars.
