Advice on how to find appropriate video games for kids.

Kids love video games. They are fun, entertaining and it's what all the "cool kids are doing". So it's only natural that every kid wants a game system of their own. But in today's world there are so many different types to choose from, it's difficult for a parent to know what is appropriate and what isn't.

The best game system for children is a Nintendo Wii. The XBox 360 doesn't have very many children's games, and it definitely has some games that are not intended for children, as does the Playstation 3. The Wii has always had the biggest amount of children's games, and the best thing about it is the innovative use of the controllers, which allows kids to get excersize while they are playing.

The Wii comes with a lot of games to pick from, and which games to choose really depends on how many children are going to be playing. Wii Sports is a great multiplayer game, it comes with a few minigames, including tennis, bowling, boxing and a few others. Another good game is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It's slightly violent, and therefore may not be suited for very young children. It also tends to be of medium difficulty, so it is more suited to older children.

Great single player Wii games are Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Okami and World of Goo. There are many more, and any local Gamestop or other game store should be able to give you information on great children's games.

A few pieces of advice:

1. Anything in the Mario series of games is suited for children, that's what the series was intended for.

2. Guitar Hero and Rockband are very popular games, and they are popular for good reason. They are incredibly fun and are great reflex building games. But parents beware, they are rated Teen, because of lyrics in some of the songs. There aren't any curse words, but some of the songs have sexual references, and in my experience the children generally don't understand the references, but it is up to your discretion if you want to expose your children to that.

3. The Wii also has games that are adult in nature, because of extreme violence and language, and some sexuality. So, although the Wii is the best system for children, still take care when choosing games.
