Windows Shortcuts
Learn these Windows shortcuts to save time and make your life on the computer a little easier.
Basic shortcuts to save time
I'm all about saving time and making a processes simpler. Many shortcuts available in Windows do just that. You may already be familiar with common shortcuts such as holding down ctrl and pressing the s key to save a file (ctrl + s). Many other shortcuts exist that can make your computer experience just a little easier. Listed below are a few common shortcuts and their function.
CTRL + X = Cut (Cuts selected text or items to be moved and pasted elsewhere)
CTRL + C = Copy (Copies selected text or items to be pasted elsewhere)
The difference between cut and copy is copy keeps the selected text or items intact and allows pasting elsewhere whereas cut removes the selected text or items from the original location after you paste it elsewhere. The best way to understand how cut and copy work is to open Microsoft Office Word or Notepad (Wordpad if you are using Vista) and get some practice. Try typing a couple lines of text, then select and cut or copy a section of text and paste it elsewhere in the document.
CTRL + V = Paste (Used in conjunction with copy and cut, allows you to paste selected text or items)
CTRL + Z = Undo (For those "Oh @#$%" moments)
CTRL + A = Select All (Selects everything in the window you are working in)
CTRL + S = Save (Get in a habit of saving often, it prevents you from losing work if your computer happens to shutoff at the most inopportune time)
CTRL + P = Print (Easier and quicker than clicking file then print)
This should give you a pretty good start on shortcuts. Microsoft also has a fairly exhaustive list athttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449
