Known amongst his peers and colleagues of the filmmaking industry as one of the most creative and visual directors to have put his hands on a camera, Jean-Pierre Jeunet has made a name for himself not only in his own country of France but in the Unites States.  The native Frenchman who was born September 3, 1953 in Roanne, Loire, France took the interest of the media when he was a teenager.  Studying the art form at Cinemation Studios Jean was able to make a number of short films and begin to find his style while enduring his studies in the meantime.

While progressing in his studies he later met and became good friends with a designer by the name of Marc Caro who took a strong interest in comic books and its artistry.  As Jean and Marc’s companionship grew stronger and stronger their collaboration of art work also began to improve, working on films like “City of Lost Children,” and “Delicatessen” Jean was able to see some success in his career grow.  With the growth of his craft it was inevitable that Hollywood would finally take notice of his talents when he was offered the job to direct the fourth installment of the Alien series which starred actress Sigourney Weaver.  The film was considered profitable by studio standards even though many critics didn’t take to well to its content, however Jean was able to get over the hump of being that diamond in the ruff and Hollywood finally took notice of his capability.

When the hump was over for Jean in the states he then decided to return to France and direct the film Amelie which was a romantic film about a female who did many good things for people who was finding love and yet she couldn’t find it for herself.  The film gained worldwide attention as well received a number of nominations for an Academy Award.  With much success of his films Jean was beginning to get offers for a number of projects in which various producers were interested in creating, like any artist though Jean rather than taking on projects that would normally receive commercial attention decided to work on projects of his own right.  Now known amongst the French community as one of the most profound and creative directors out in the field Jean has been able to take one foot in front of the other and continue to perfect his craft right along with his dear friend Marc.  In the end who could blame him, film is a media in which stories are told and if the director who is at the helm is not interested in its content then story being told may or may not be told the right the way. Jean a director who takes that into consideration must be known and will always be remembered as influential person who has much respect and thanks for his talent and craft.
