Jan Kounen

When it comes to filmmaking Jan Kounen has done it all, from directing to screen writing to producing.  While setting foot in the industry Jan has been able to make strides at a number of accomplishments, making a name for himself by directing a number of commercials and music videos for artists who received massive attention in the Great Britain area.  With his career taking off Jan dived further into the industry and took a chance at directing short films where he also found some success and won top prize awards at film festivals.  His first short film called “Gisele Kerosene” was the beginning of something new where he won his first award at the Avoriaz Festival, the year after that he directed a musical with the group Elmer Food Beat.

            It was the year 1964 and the month was February and the day was the 5th when Jan was born.  Growing up in the Netherlands Jan made the decision to becoming a filmmaker, he then attending the school of Arts Decoratifs in Nice, France where he learned the art form of cinema, animation and pixilation.  When finishing his studies Jan commenced on with his career and flourished in it.  After much success Jan pushed the envelope a bit and finally released his most controversial film “Doberman,” released in the year of 1995 considered as his first full length feature film which created a stir and later showcased Jan’s talent as a director.

            With time Jan’s popularity continued on, when he began to receive interest from various pop groups within the American community to help direct some of their music videos.  Groups like Erasure took strong interest in his work and for good measure the videos produced were big hits and gained strong success as well.  Still working and creating projects for the future and present Jan has been recognized for his work by his peers and the fans who take the time to head out their doors to see his visual side.  With the number of accomplishments Jan has been able to do it is no wonder that the success he has been able bring hasn’t inspired young filmmakers from all over the globe to do what it is he does.
